Patchwork Camp Shirt
This shirt is made by hand at our atelier from premium, deadstock cotton madras fabrics.
This shirt is a celebration of heritage and sustainability, made from deadstock cotton madras fabric. Originating in the 17th century from the Indian city of Madras (now Chennai), madras fabric is known for its vibrant checks and lightweight texture, making it a staple in warm-weather wardrobes. Traditionally handwoven with irregularities that add character, each piece of this shirt carries the legacy of centuries-old textile craftsmanship. By using deadstock fabric, this shirt not only honors the history of madras but also embraces our more conscious approach: slow-fashion.
Each shirt is inspired from the 19th century Cuban 'Guayabera', a relaxed work shirt with a loose fitting collar worn by farmers to keep cool in warm conditions. At the time Cuban immigrants introduced the camp shirt in New York and Miami in the 1950's, the style was so unlike others worn by Americans.
